KUCHING, June 28: A 50-year-old mother of one, Jennifer James Nieet from Kampung Sudoh, Singai, was crowned the winner of the Sindok Gawea Tematu 2025 (SGT25) competition held on Friday (June 27).
According to TVS, when met at the Tematu Ethno Fest 2025, Jennifer expressed her pleasant surprise at winning, especially since she had outshone contestants younger than herself.
“I didn’t expect to win because every contestant did well, so it was a surprise for me. I am happy and grateful to the organisers of Tematu Ethno Fest 2025,” she said.
Besides clinching the main title, Jennifer also took home the Best Costume award, earning her a total of RM2,500 in cash, along with a hamper, a bouquet, a trophy, and a crown.
Meanwhile, for the Onak Dayung Gawea Tematu 2025 (ODGT25) competition—a beauty pageant for children—eight-year-old Nurul Nisa Lil Alamin Mohd Zulfiqar placed third.

Her mother, Aisyah Humairah Kathy Fraddie Abdullah, 40, from Kampung Tematu, said she wanted her daughter to follow in her footsteps as she had taken part in the competition before.
Aisyah told TVS that she participated in such competitions as a way to preserve her Bidayuh heritage and customs, and wanted to pass them down to her daughter.
