50,000 expected to visit BorneoCraft Global Expo and Conference 2024 from Nov 27 to Dec 1

KUCHING, Sept 23: BorneoCraft Global Expo and Conference (BCG) 2024 is expected to gather 50,000 expo visitors, 300 conference delegates with lineups of international and local speakers and 300 exhibitors at Kuching Waterfront from Nov 27 to Dec 1.

According to a press statement, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan told representatives from embassies in Kuala Lumpur that BCG 2024 is Sarawak’s homegrown event and first of its kind aiming to present a much-anticipated blend of crafts, foods and beverages and arts of different pavilions which represent different parts of the world.

Snowdan envisioned BCG 2024 to grow similarly to the Rainforest Music World Festival, an event closely tied to the image of Sarawak.

The 5-day BCG 2024 will be abuzz with exciting activities such as expo and pocket shows.

Visitors can also sign up to participate in various crafts workshops held in the historical building of the Sarawak Steamship Building, which is also the headquarters of Sarawak Craft Council.

Meanwhile, in the same statement, Sarawak Craft Council manager Suriya Charles Buas said he foresees that this event will not only gather local visitors but also will boost the arrival of international visitors with attractions of crafts and gastronomy of exotic nations such as Latin America, Iran and Zambia.

He added that representatives of embassies from Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines had expressed strong interest in participating in BCG 2024.

He mentioned that one of the sub-events, the Conference and Masterclasses, will provide invaluable insights to participants with speakers from Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand and France and for local Malaysians.

BCG2024 Event Curator Grecie Geikie highlighted that this event also seeks to gather more than 1,000 beadmakers on Dec 1 to attempt to set a Malaysia Book of Records entry for the largest gathering of beadmakers making beaded crafts.

She further highlighted that BCG 2024 also sets to introduce the crafts version of “MasterChef Challenge”, known as “MasterCraft Challenge” which aims to discover gem crafters of Sarawak.

Participation in the MasterCraft Challenge is only open to Sarawakians, and the Malaysia Book of Records attempt is open to members of the public.

BCG2024 is organised by Sarawak Craft Council and supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak and Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak).
