KUCHING, Dec 27: A total of 500 students and team officials will take part in the PETRONAS Youth Football Champions League 2025 (PYFCL 2025), which will be held over seven days from December 28, 2025, to January 3, 2026, at Stadium Sarawak and Stadium Negeri.

According to Sarawak Education Department (JPNS) director Omar Mahli, the tournament involves 20 top school teams from across Sarawak, competing in two age categories, namely Under-14 (U14) and Under-16 (U16).

“The teams selected represent the best-performing school sides under the State-level youth football development programme and will compete throughout the seven-day tournament based on a structured match schedule.

“Matches will be played daily at the two designated venues in Kuching, with teams rotating between them for the duration of the competition,” he said in his speech at the PYFCL 2025 team introduction and opening ceremony, held at a hotel here today.

Omar noted that PYFCL 2025 marks the final phase of the youth football development programme for this year, bringing together selected school teams following earlier qualifying stages.

The programme is a joint effort between JPNS and PETRONAS, with JPNS coordinating school participation and student management, while PETRONAS provides the platform for the competition.

Overall, the tournament serves as a State-level school football competition aimed at identifying and developing young players through organised match exposure. — DayakDaily
