KUCHING, Nov 5: Roughly 50 Sarawak for Sarawakians (S4S) supporters gathered at a section of the Kuching Waterfront facing the Sarawak Assembly Complex this morning to put across its call to the state government to enact a referendum ordinance.

Banners containing slogans `No referendum, Vote you out!’ and a banner with mugshots of all 82 state assemblypersons was displayed.

“We displayed our banners with slogans this morning at Kuching Waterfront and held a morning walk. By displaying our slogans directly across the Sarawak Assembly Complex, we hope to be able to get the attention of the Sarawak Assembly, which is now in session,” S4S spokesperson Tan Kok Chiang told DayakDaily.

The Sarawak Assembly sitting starts today and ends on Nov 14.

Tan said the main aim of the peaceful gathering was to get the state government to enact a referendum ordinance, which would allow Sarawak to secede from Malaysia.

“What we are doing now is within the framework of the law, the Federal Constitution and the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

“We are not asking for anything outside MA63,” he emphasized, adding that the peaceful gathering was a legal one. — DayakDaily
