5 to 25 pct utility bill discount extended for all Sarawakians until Dec, 2021

KUCHING, May 28: Domestic, commercial and industrial consumers will continue to enjoy electric and water bill discounts between five to 25 per cent on their monthly bills from July until December, 2021.

This is one out of 15 initiatives implemented by the Sarawak government under the sixth Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS 6.0) as announced by the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg today.


He said five to 25 per cent discounts would be imposed on electricity bills while 10 to 25 per cent discounts are on water bills.

“The discount (on electricity bills) will benefit 647,000 households, commercial and industrial consumers across Sarawak.

“The total cost of this electricity bill discounts amounting to RM166.8 million will be funded by the Sarawak government,” he said during a special conference at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

As for the water bill discounts, he said the measure would benefit more than 647,000 households with a cost of up to RM32.1 million.

In the BKSS 6.0 this time, there were 15 measures announced altogether where nine of them involved cash incentives and the remaining six were of discount incentives.

The total expenditure incurred in BKSS 6.0 is RM1.4 billion and all will be borne by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)-led government.
