SIBU, Aug 16: Five people here have been cheated of a total of RM93,315 in an investment scam that promised high returns.
Sibu district police chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said today that the police had received five reports from the victims, who had invested a total of RM93,315 in the scheme run by a so-called company, Turing Ai Asia Ventures which promised a return of between RM1.64 to RM588 daily depending on the package.
“They had transferred the money to several accounts provided from July to October 2021. They came forward to lodge their respective reports after failing to receive the returns,” he said.
ACP Zuklipli said the Magistrate’s Court here had on Aug 15 fined a 28-year-old man from Kuala Lumpur RM2,500 for his involvement in the case.
The accused, Jaywinder Singh A/L Sentwant Singh had unlawfully obtained RM23,758 which was part of the monies of the victim.
The offence was framed under Section 37(1) of the Sarawak Minor Offence Ordinance. ā DayakDaily
