KOTA SAMARAHAN, Sept 16: A 71-year-old pedestrian was killed after he was hit by a four-wheel-drive vehicle at Jalan Kampung Baru today.
Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu revealed that the vehicle was on the straight stretch from Asajaya towards Kuching at about 5pm.
“The driver decided to take a break and stop on the left side of the road to rest. While doing so, the victim suddenly appeared at the side of the road. The driver swerved his vehicle in attempt to avoid the victim but he failed and knocked the victim,” Alexson disclosed in a statement.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
