48-year-old man with comorbidities in Kapit among four Covid-19 deaths, Sarawak registers 296 new cases

KUCHING, April 10: A 48-year-old man in Kapit who had hypertension, gout, dyslipidemia and stroke was among the four death cases reported due to Covid-19 in Sarawak today.

According to reports from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), there were four fatalities reported.


They involved two men and two women, aged between 48 and 83, who had various comorbidities such as hypertension, gout, dyslipidemia and breast cancer.

Three of them passed away at Sibu Hospital while one died in Kapit Hospital.

With the additional four casualties reported due to coronavirus, the death toll due to Covid-19 in Sarawak has risen to 124 persons.

At the same time, SDMC said there were 296 new cases of Covid-19 reported.

The cases were derived from Bintulu with 101 cases followed by Kuching (41), Miri (35), Sibu (32), Matu (26), Subis (9), Serian (8), Kanowit (7), Sarikei (7), Samarahan (7), Julau (6), Meradong (5), Marudi (3), Tebedu (2), Bau (2), Kapit (2), Beluru (1), Saratok (1), and Sebauh (1).

The additional cases have brought the cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Sarawak to 19,558 cases.

On another note, there were two new clusters of Covid-19 reported.

They are the Pujut Satu Cluster in Miri and the Jalan Bambangan Cluster in Mukah.

SDMC said there are currently 47 active clusters of Covid-19.

Out of the 47 active clusters, 13 clusters reported new cases while the balance of 34 clusters did not report new Covid-19 cases.

Adding on, SDMC said there were 381 Covid-19 patients who recovered and were discharged from the hospitals.

In spite of that, a total of 3,463 Covid-19 patients are still being treated for coronavirus at health facilities and low-risk quarantine centres throughout Sarawak.

In the meantime, there were 336 new cases of Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) and six PUI cases are awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab test. — DayakDaily
