In a press conference today, Sarawak Commissioner of Police Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri also announced that drones are completely prohibited in the air space of the Malaysia Day celebration site on Sept 16, from 8am to 12 midnight.

He said the celebration will start with a prelude performance at 7pm while the official event will commence at 8.30pm with the arrival of Acting Head of State Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar.

Among the distinguished guests include Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Deputy Prime Minister Dato Fadillah Yusof, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor and wife Datin Seri Panglima Juliah Salag.

The Malaysia Day celebration will adopt the theme of Merdeka Day – ‘Malaysia Madani: Determination of Unity to Fulfil Hope’, apart from the Iban theme of ‘Segulai Sejalai’ (Walking Together) announced by Anwar while attending the Merdeka Day celebration on Aug 31 in Kuching.

The Malaysia Day Special Book Signing Ceremony, a Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang convoy Parada and a Malaysia Day Concert cum Cultural Performance are some the highlights of the evening.

“An estimated 5,000 people are expected to attend the 2023 Malaysia Day celebration at Perpaduan Stadium, Kuching on Sept 16,” said Mohd Azman.

He said Sarawak has been given the honour to host the event following the Federal Cabinet’s decision, which also decided that the celebration will be rotated between Sarawak, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia.  — DayakDaily
