KUCHING, May 27: Forty-four people were left homeless when a 12-door longhouse and three single houses at Semawa Hulu, Jalan Pantu, in Sri Aman were completely destroyed by fire this afternoon.
According to Bomba Zone 3 chief, Nik Muhammad Afiq Nik Roslan, a male resident suffered burns when he attempted to douse the flames.
Nik Muhammad Afiq, who is still at the scene, said the fire was believed to have started from one of the kitchens.
Meanwhile, Bomba’s Operation Centre (PGO) reported that they received a call about the fire at 2.06pm and immediately directed firefighters from Sri Aman fire station to the scene.
It took firefighters close to one hour to get to the scene as the longhouse is located 52km away. — DayakDaily
