KUCHING, May 12: A 43-year-old man from Beluru passed away due to Covid-19 after seeking treatment in Miri Hospital for shortness of breath.
According to a report from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the man is the sole Covid-19 fatality reported in Sarawak today, adding that he experienced fever and coughing three days before he sought treatment at the hospital.
The man, who had diabetes, hypertension and chronic kidney disease had taken a Covid-19 swab test and results came back positive on May 3.
However, his health deteriorated and he died yesterday.
With this fatality, Sarawak’s death toll due to Covid-19 has risen to 212.
Meanwhile, Sarawak registered 405 Covid-19 cases today.
The cases came from Kapit (79), Sibu (68), Bintulu (60), Miri (47), Kuching (35), Mukah (17), Samarahan (17), Subis (16), Serian (13), Sebauh (9), Pakan (8), Sri Aman (8), Tebedu (6), Selangau (6), Lundu (4), Song (4), Bukit Mabong (3), Pusa (2), Tatau (1), Kanowit (1) and Sarikei (1).
With these new cases, the cumulative total of confirmed cases in Sarawak has increased to 36,726.
On another note, 494 Covid-19 patients were reported to have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries in Sarawak to 29,890 or 81.39 per cent of the total confirmed cases.
A total of 6,544 Covid-19 patients are still being treated in hospitals and quarantine and low-risk treatment centres throughout the State.
There were 406 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases reported today, with none awaiting Covid-19 swab test results. — DayakDaily
