41 longhouses in Merit receive 2,975 food baskets

KUCHING, FEB 10: Some 2,975 food baskets have been distributed today to 41 longhouses and settlements in Merit area which has been placed under movement control order (MCO) due to the spike in Covid-19 cases in Kapit Division, disclosed Belaga Assemblyman Datuk Liwan Lagang.

He said in order to distribute the food baskets to all those affected, five collecting centres were used namely at Ng Metah (Kaki Mikai), Ng Pilah, Merit Town, Rumah Sking and Rumah Milang.

“Today, we manage to distribute food items to 2,975 households for Merit area which has been under MCO as it lies under Kapid Division,” Liwan told DayakDaily when contacted today.

He added that he was very satisfied with the local people as they were disciplined in following the standard operating procedures (SOPs) that have been put in place.

“The cooperation from all ketua masyarakat, tuai rumah and councillors and the longhouse folk have been excellent as they are very disciplined in adhering to the SOPs,” he said.

Liwan, who is also Assistant Minister of Utilities (Rural Electricity Supplies) advised his constituents to remain vigilant in the fight against Covid-19.

“My message to my constituents is always on guard against Covid-19 as can’t see who has been affected. So always follow the SOPs and war masks wherever you go out from your house,” he said.
