4,000 litres of diesel worth RM8,600 seized in Demak Laut raid over illegal storage site

KUCHING, April 8: Authorities uncovered 4,000 litres of diesel worth RM8,600 at a premises in Demak Laut this morning, which was being used as a storage site for scheduled controlled goods without valid permits.

Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sarawak director Matthew Dominic Barin disclosed the authority successfully foiled an attempt to misappropriate subsidised diesel following an integrated operation with the Marine Police Force (PPM) and the Air Operations Force (PGU) around 9.30am.

“Initial inspections revealed that the diesel was stored in a skid tank, and the total value of the seizure is estimated at RM10,400.

“Investigations revealed that the premises was suspected of storing controlled goods without proper authorisation, a violation under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, read together with Regulation 3(1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974,” he said in a statement today.

Matthew also confirmed that one case has been opened under Ops 555 and Ops Jeriji, with potential penalties for individuals including fines of up to RM1 million or imprisonment of up to three years, and higher fines for subsequent offenses.

Companies face fines of up to RM2 million, rising to RM5 million for repeat violations.

The ministry emphasised its commitment to strengthening cooperation with other enforcement agencies, including the police, to combat misappropriation of controlled goods, particularly diesel, which affects the economy and public welfare.
