4-year-old child in Miri tests positive for Covid-19

KUCHING, Nov 16: A four-year-old child in Miri has become the latest positive case of Covid-19 and the sole patient reported in Sarawak today.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said Sarawak reported one positive case of Covid-19 today.


He added the case was linked to the Greenhill Cluster which was reported in Kuching.

“There is one case which was identified from close contacts of positive cases which were reported before.

“The case had undergone the first Covid-19 swab test on October 28 and the results were negative.

“The case underwent the second swab test at a health clinic on November 14 .

“The case 1,041 is a family member and close contact to cases 829 and 883 which were reported before.

“The child was asymptomatic,” he said during a press conference on the updates of the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak here today.

With the additional case reported, Uggah who is also Deputy Chief Minister said the cumulative number of positive Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has risen to 1,041 cases.

He noted with the extra case associated with the Greenhill Cluster, the number of positive cases linked to the cluster has increased to 91 persons including the index case.

Uggah who is also Second Finance Minister said a total of 1,556 individuals linked to the Greenhill Cluster have been screened for Covid-19 as of to date.

Out of that amount, 1,465 individuals have been tested negative and 91 individuals were tested positive for Covid-19.

At the same time, he added there were no new Covid-19 cases emerging from the other four active clusters in Sarawak.

Uggah who is also Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Minister said there were five patients who recovered and were allowed to be discharged from the hospitals.

In spite of that, he said there was one patient who was on ventilator at the Sarawak General Hospital.

He observed that there were a total of 114 active cases of Covid-19 in Kuching reported in the past 14 days.

Uggah added there were five new cases of Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) while two PUI cases were awaiting laboratory test results. —DayakDaily
