KUCHING, Nov 11: The 4.95 km Trans Borneo Highway (LTB) project is set to move forward, with construction expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026.

In a post on his social media, Minister of Works Dato’ Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the project encompasses a section of the Jalan Kuala Baram By-Pass, stretching from Sungai Baram to the Industrial Training Institute (ILP) Miri, and is receiving close attention from the ministry.

“Another section, covering 9.7 km, is part of the Redline route and has been maintained by the federal road concession company since June 2025. This route is a key link between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam,” he stated in response to Miri MP Chiew Choon Man in Parliament today.

Nanta highlighted the ministry’s commitment to improving road infrastructure in the face of rising traffic volumes and increasing use of vehicles, including heavy and overloaded lorries.

Under the Zero Pothole Policy, any road damage must be repaired within 24 hours, or the responsible party will face penalties.

He added that through the Notice of Defect (NOD) system, the ministry prioritises critical road sections for resurfacing and submits funding requests to the Ministry of Finance.

“These efforts reflect the ministry’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that our federal roads are not just pathways, but the lifeblood connecting the people and driving the nation’s progress,” he said. — DayakDaily
