MIRI, April 9: A single-vehicle accident near the Marudi junction on the Pan Borneo Highway today claimed the life of a 39-year-old man and left a young child injured after their car overturned into a roadside ditch.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Lopeng responded to the emergency at around 3pm, immediately deploying a team of firefighters to the scene.
The incident involved a Perodua Axia that had reportedly overturned into the ditch. Upon arrival, rescuers found the adult male trapped inside the vehicle.
A boy, estimated to be around five years old, had already been rescued by members of the public and was receiving medical attention from paramedics at the scene.
Rescue personnel used specialised road traffic accident (RTA) equipment to extricate the driver.
Sadly, medical officers confirmed that he had died before the body was handed over to the police for further investigation. — DayakDaily
