39th National Chinese Cultural Festival relay to start in Limbang on Jun 22, conclude in Kuching on Sept 15

KUCHING, June 7: The 39th National Chinese Cultural Festival, hosted by the Federation of Chinese Associations Sarawak, is scheduled to begin on June 22.

According to the press release today, the event will commence with a torch relay beginning in Limbang and will go through all the divisions in Sarawak, with the torch expected to arrive in Kuching on September 15.

The local Federation of Chinese Associations will also be organising cultural activities throughout the relay.

A grand cultural performance and closing ceremony will be held on the evening of September 15 at Kuching Waterfront after a sequence of cultural events in Kuching.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg are invited as guests of honour for the concluding ceremony.

The Federation of Chinese Associations Sarawak President Dato Richard Wee Liang Chiat recently paid a courtesy visit to the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Mayor Hilmy Othman to report the events’ preparations to DBKU in seeking approval to use the waterfront as the main venue for the closing ceremony.

Hilmy agreed that the closing event should be held in Kuching and said that the DBKU would maintain close contact with the organising and working committee.

Wee was accompanied by the federation’s secretary-general, Lim Ah Ted Lin, and the cultural festival organising committee coordinator, Ho Ching Hin, to the DBKU office.— DayakDaily
