KUCHING, Jan 1: Police have arrested a 38-year-old local man in connection with a viral video showing a cat being brutally beaten to death at a self-service laundromat along Jalan Astana here.
Kuching district police chief Alexson Naga Chabu said the arrest was made today following investigations into the 41-second video that had been widely circulated on social media.
“Initial investigations found that the suspect was involved in the incident.
“Police also confirmed that the object used in the incident was a wooden stick,” he said in a statement today.
Further checks revealed that the suspect has a prior record related to drug offences.
“An initial urine screening test conducted on the suspect returned positive for drugs,” Alexson added.
The case is being investigated under Section 428 of the Penal Code, which carries a punishment of up to three years’ imprisonment, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Police have also advised the public not to speculate on the case, as such actions could interfere with ongoing investigations.
