To date GoBald raised RM753,000, and 37 went bald to spread hope in conjunction with the cancer survivor month- SCCS.
KUCHING, June 18: GoBald, Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) main fundraising campaign, has raised RM 753,000 out of a targetted RM1 million so far this year.
SCCS vice president Dayang Juliana Abang Dalhan revealed that the funds were from1,900 donors and in June, about 130 people in Malaysia signed up for GoBald, with at least 108 pledges to shave their heads.
“Today, 21 showed up to shave all off for this meaningful cause, including three from our SCCS family, and 13 others went to the salon (to shave their heads) or home,” she told reporters during the GoBald main shave event in Kuching organised by SSCCS in conjunction with cancer survivor month at a shopping mall today.
Dayang Juliana said the funds raised would go towards SCCS’ expenses. The NGO has an annual budget of RM2 million, and the funds would also help families and children with cancer undergoing active treatment.
“Our target this year is to raise RM1 million and shave 350 heads,” she revealed.
She applauded three members of a family who went bald today in support of their 14-year-old son and nephew who was recently diagnosed with T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (T-ALL).
“It is through the collective power of individuals that we can provide the necessary support to ensure Sarawak children have access to the care and treatment they need to get better.
“We can always do more to help kids fight cancer,” she said.
According to a press release, the three family members who went bald today in support of their 14-year-old son and nephew, Daniel were Kueh Joo Leong (father), Karen Kueh (mother) and Michelle Kueh (aunt). Daniel was diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (T-ALL) in May and he is part of the group currently undergoing active treatment at Kuchingās Sarawak General Hospital.
Also present at the event were SCCS Honorary Treasurer Gary Ho and Honorary Secretary Mary Kiu. ā DayakDaily
