37 longhouse folks in Tatau test positive for Covid-19 triggering new Nanga Puti Cluster

KUCHING, Aug 19: Some 37 longhouse folks from a longhouse in Nanga Puti, Tatau have been tested positive for Covid-19, triggering a new cluster known as the Nanga Puti Cluster.

According to a report from Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), a total of 49 longhouse folks were swabbed, out of which 37 were confirmed Covid-19 positive. The remaining 12 individuals are awaiting for their Covid-19 swab test results.


SDMC said the longhouse has since been placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) while the infected have been admitted to health facilities in Bintulu for treatment.

The Nanga Puti Cluster in Tatau is one of the two new clusters of Covid-19 identified in Sarawak besides the Jalan Bubut Sojak Cluster in Bau.

Meanwhile, SDMC also announced the ending of Po Ai Cluster in Sri Aman, Pagar Tebedu Cluster in Tebedu and Jalan Teo Kui Ngo Cluster in Meradong.

With two new clusters formed and three ended, there are currently 118 active clusters of Covid-19 in Sarawak, out of which there are 17 active clusters which have yielded 95 new cases today. — DayakDaily
