KUCHING, Jan 29: Police arrested 37 individuals and seized drugs worth an estimated RM7,873 during a three-day Ops Tapis Khas conducted across the Kuching district from Jan 25 to 27.
Kuching District Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the operation, conducted by the Kuching District Police Headquarters, was aimed at curbing drug distribution and abuse in the city and surrounding areas.
“Intensive enforcement and continuous intelligence gathering led to the arrests for various drug-related offences,” he said in a statement today.
According to police, two suspects were detained under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, one under Section 39A(1), seven under Section 12(2), and 26 under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act. Another one suspect was arrested under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.
During the operation, police also seized 65.85 grammes of methamphetamine and 63 litres of ketum water.
Alexson said the success of the operation was made possible through sustained intelligence work and cooperation from the public, adding that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) would not compromise with any party involved in drug-related activities.
“Possessing, distributing or protecting drug activities are serious offences under the law,” he stressed.
He added that the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) remains committed to combating drugs to safeguard current and future generations, describing drugs as the nation’s number one enemy.
