35yo truck driver arrested for making death threats against local artiste on social media

SIBU, Jan 1: Police arrested a 35-year-old truck driver yesterday in connection with death threats made against a local female artiste through social media platforms.

In a news report by TVS, Sibu District Police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili confirmed that the suspect was apprehended in Kota Sentosa, Kuching, following an investigation launched after a police report was filed by the victim on Dec 30, 2024.

“The suspect was arrested around 9.15pm, and his smartphone was seized as evidence to aid in the investigation,” he stated in a press release today.

Zulkipli explained that the case involved a security threat against the artiste, who is currently in Sibu for work-related matters.

“Initial investigations revealed that the threatening comment was made by the suspect on a social media platform,” he added.

The suspect is now under remand at the Sibu Court starting today, pending further investigation under Section 507 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. If convicted, he could face severe penalties, including imprisonment.

Zulkipli also advised the public to exercise greater responsibility when using social media and refrain from making statements that violate the law. — DayakDaily
