341 arrested in three-day ‘Op Tapis Khas’, drugs worth RM124,318 seized

KUCHING, April 22: Police arrested 341 individuals aged 16 to 67 during the three-day ‘Op Tapis Khas’ conducted throughout the State from April 18 to 20.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the highest arrest was made in Kuching involving 85 individuals, followed by Sibu (48), Miri (39), and between one and 27 arrests in other districts.

“The drugs seized during the operation were estimated to be worth RM124,318.33, namely Syabu (265.34 grammes), Ecstasy powder (5,450 grammes), Cannabis (117 grammes) and Erimin 5 pills (69 pills).


“Among others, a total of RM61,611.83 in properties were also seized, which include a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), and money in an account amounting to RM27,611.84, bringing the total amount of drugs and property confiscated to RM185,930.16,” he said during a press conference held at the Sarawak police contingent headquarters in Jalan Badruddin today.

Mohd Azman said 297 investigation papers were opened under various Sections of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the Poisons Act 1952.

According to him, 168 of the cases have been charged in court, while the remaining 129 cases are still under investigation.

“In addition, 12 hardcore addicts in Kuching, Lawas, Sibu, Padawan, Limbang, Sri Aman, and Mukah were also charged under Section 39C (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while four others were arrested under Section 3 (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) Special Preventive Measures (LLPK) 1985 in Kuching, Bintulu, Kapit, and Miri districts,” he added.

The third series of ‘Op Tapis Khas’ was launched nationwide by the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) on April 18. — DayakDaily
