BETONG, Aug 15: A tragic accident claimed the lives of a 33-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl at the P-turn section along Jalan Layar on the Pan Borneo Highway today.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) reported that the collision also left two other passengers in the Perodua Kancil—a 76-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl—with injuries.
Both survivors were rushed to Sri Aman Hospital for treatment.
A team of firefighters arrived at the scene at 3.36pm, confirming that the crash involved a Perodua Kancil and a Nissan Navara.
Firefighters quickly worked to free the trapped teenage girl from the front passenger seat of the Perodua Kancil.
Unfortunately, both she and the 33-year-old woman were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from the Ministry of Health.
The status of the driver of the Nissan Navara was unknown as the individual was not found at the scene.
The rescue operation concluded at 4.16pm, with firefighters ensuring the area was secure before departing. — DayakDaily
