KUCHING, Nov 22: A total of 18 solar lamps installed along the ruai of Rumah Abus Junau in Nanga Jelai Batang Oya, Dalat together with 15 solar-powered streetlights lining the community pathways, have significantly improved safety, connectivity, and overall quality of life for residents.
This follows the official handover of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation’s (SEDC) latest solar installation initiative on Friday (Nov 21).
The ceremony, held at Rumah Abus, was officiated by Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine, alongside district representatives and the longhouse community.
SEDC Group Corporate Communications head Nur Khairanie Nasya Jasni reaffirmed the group’s commitment to sustainable community development.
According to a media release, this year’s initiative, themed “Brightening Communities, Empowering Futures”, is part of SEDC’s annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, which focuses on long-term social impact and environmentally responsible development.
The project equips Rumah Abus with a more dependable, cleaner, and sustainable energy solution, marking SEDC’s first sustainability-focused CSR project of the year.
In her address, Nur Khairanie emphasised SEDC’s dedication to advancing green technology adoption in rural communities and supporting Sarawak’s sustainability aspirations.
“SEDC remains committed to implementing initiatives that elevate community well-being while encouraging responsible and inclusive development practices,” she said.
SEDC continues to demonstrate its role beyond economic development by prioritising community upliftment and long-term environmental stewardship.
“Through initiatives such as the solar installation at Rumah Abus, the corporation reinforces our commitment to expanding renewable energy use, improving essential rural infrastructure, fostering environmental awareness, and driving meaningful social and environmental progress,” she added.
The corporation reiterated that it will continue supporting sustainable development across Sarawak through programmes that enhance social well-being, encourage environmental responsibility, and build long-term community resilience. — DayakDaily
