32 hawkers at wet market in Mukah test positive for Covid-19, results in Jalan Pasar Basah Cluster

KUCHING, July 9: A wet market in Jalan Lama Mukah in Mukah is now ground zero of a new community cluster with 32 Covid-19 cases confirmed so far.

Sarawak Health (JKNS) director Dato Dr Mohamed Sapian Mohamed said the Jalan Pasar Basah Cluster involved the hawkers operating at the market.


“A total of 229 individuals have been screened whereby 32 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case and 147 were negative,” he said in a press conference by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today.

All positive cases from the cluster were referred and admitted Mukah Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) for isolation and further treatment.

With the addition of the Jalan Pasar Basah Cluster, there are two active clusters in Mukah at present, with the other being Kilometer 85 Cluster.

At the same time, SDMC announced the end of Jalan Selirik Cluster in Kapit and Jalan Brooke Cluster in Miri after reporting no new local infections within the past 28 days.

At present, there are 99 active clusters in the State with 17 of them recording an increase of 138 new positive cases. — DayakDaily
