BINTULU, Oct 8: A pedestrian died after a suspected hit-and-run incident along Jalan Nyabau near the LAKU Plant here early this morning.

In a statement, Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said the incident occurred at around 5am.

The victim, a 31-year-old man, was confirmed dead by medical officers from Bintulu Hospital at the scene.

“Preliminary investigations found that a man’s body was lying on the right lane of the road, believed to have been hit by a vehicle that fled after the incident.

“The incident was believed to have occurred when the victim wanted to cross the road and was suddenly hit by a vehicle coming from the Batu 6 Flyover traffic light towards Tanjung Kidurong,” he said.

He also advised the public not to speculate or spread unverified news about the incident.

“The police are trying to identify the vehicle involved in the incident,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
