SIBU, July 26: A man is facing a life sentence in prison after being found in possession of 32.02 grammes of methamphetamine yesterday.
Sibu District Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the 30-year-old local suspect was arrested by officers from the Sibu Police Headquarters (IPD) at around 1pm in Jalan Kampung Datu Baru.
“The results of the inspection found one transparent plastic bag which contained two transparent plastic sachets, each packet containing lumps of crystal substance suspected to be the drug.
“The estimated gross weight is 32.02 grammes, with the current value of the drug estimated at RM6,400,” he added.
Zulkipli said that the urine screening test carried out also revealed that the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine.
“The suspect was arrested under section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952 and Section 15(1) (a) of the ADB 1952,” he said.
Section 39A(2) of the Act provides for imprisonment for life or five years and no more than 10 lashes.
Section 15(1) (a) meanwhile carries is a fine not exceeding RM5,000 and imprisonment not exceeding two years or both and supervision for two years under Section 38B ADB 1952. — DayakDaily
