1 killed, 7 injured in four-vehicle crash along Jln Samarahan-Stutong Baru bypass

KUCHING, Oct 7: A 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed while seven others were injured in a four-vehicle collision along the Jalan Samarahan-Stutong Baru bypass here this morning.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre reported receiving a call at 9.24am regarding the accident involving two motorcycles, a Perodua Alza, and a Toyota Avanza, coming from opposite directions.

A team from the Samarahan station was dispatched to the scene immediately.

Upon arrival, it was noted that the accident involved six male victims and two female victims, where seven sustained minor injuries while one was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe injuries.

No victims were trapped in the wreckage, but rescuers helped remove an elderly victim from the Toyota Avanza. The deceased was identified as Mohd Irfan Waiz, 19.

All injured victims were given initial treatment by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team before being sent to the hospital by Ministry of Health ambulances.

Firefighters also carried out road clearing works to remove debris using a water hose from the fire engine’s auxiliary pump.

The operation ended after the scene was declared safe and the team returned to the station. — DayakDaily
