3,000 people gather for National Day Eve concert in Betong

BETONG, Aug 31: The State-Level National Day Eve concert brought together more than 3,000 people to the Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan Sports Hall here on Tuesday (Aug 31) for a night of celebration and remembrance.

According to Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the concert which was organised by Sarawak Arts Council (SAC) started at 8pm and featured performances eight artistes including local bands: Karen Libau, Max Kueh, Eyqa Saiful, Ricky El, Adens Kundang, Dayangku, D’cipta and Masterpiece.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas together with his wife Datin Amar Dato Doreen Mayang, Minister of Utility and Telecommunications-cum-minister-in-charge of this year’s National Day celebration Datuk Julaihi Narawi, Deputy Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and Ukas) Datuk Abdullah Saidol, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu together with his wife Datin Rosemarie Wong, and Deputy Minister of Community Wellbeing Development Mohamad Razi Sitam were among those present.

Other distinguished guests who attended the concert celebration included Betong MP Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat and his wife Datin Claudia Regina Janting, State Secretary Dato Sri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and his wife Datin Sri Baduyah Bujang, Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri, Krian assemblyman Friday Belik, Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor and Betong Division Resident Richard Michael Abu Nawas.

The climax of the night was a fireworks show which lit up the sky above Betong town which lasted for about 20 minutes. — DayakDaily
