KUCHING, Aug 26: Sarawak has approved allocations amounting to RM6 billion since 2018 to implement water supply projects Statewide, as 30 projects approved by the federal government remain pending despite approvals dating back to 2017.
According to Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, audit findings previously highlighted 12 projects, but the figure has now grown to 30.
“In view of these delays, Sarawak has taken its own initiative to accelerate implementation, ensuring critical water supply projects can move forward without waiting for federal action,” he said at the launching of Sarawak Water at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.
He said that the establishment of a dedicated headquarters for Sarawak Water may be considered as part of the agency’s long-term development plans.
However, he said that the proposal is not an immediate priority as operations will continue towards achieving full water supply by 2030. — DayakDaily
