KUCHING, May 1: Approximately 30 per cent of shopping malls and their eateries located under the jurisdiction of Kuching South City Council (MBKS) have been affected by Covid-19.
MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng disclosed that those are the locations frequented by some Covid-19 patients before they tested positive for Covid-19.
“Actually, in shopping malls under MBKS jurisdiction, there might be 29 per cent affected.
“And the percentage for coffee shops affected is more than 10 per cent.
“Shopping malls plus the eateries inside the mall, there are approximately 30 per cent.
“So, this is a very high percentage,” he said during a livestream on his Facebook account titled ‘Shall Wee Talk’ today.
He said during a study in MBKS jurisdiction last week, there were between seven per cent and 81 per cent of eateries in various locations under the local council affected by Covid-19.
Hence, Wee believed eateries is one of the locations which could have a high chance of Covid-19 transmission.
As next Sunday is Mother’s Day, he encouraged the people to order food via takeaway as opposed to dining-in at eateries.
On another note, Wee disclosed that the council’s enforcement team has issued 47 compound notices for those flouting the standard operating procedures (SOP) for the prevention of Covid-19 last week.
Wee opined that practicing SOPs should become a habit for the citizens nowadays as the State is battling the Covid-19 pandemic.
He also warned that business premises and citizens who did not abide by the SOPs will be issued with compounds immediately. — DayakDaily
