KUCHING, Dec 20: A 30-image photo essay about recent Palestine solidarity events has become the biggest highlight of local photojournalist Nadim Bokhari’s third solo exhibition held at Majma Mall here from today until Dec 29.

The 56-year-old photojournalist was honoured to share his work and tell stories through his lens.

“In this exhibition, there are mainly photographs of the Palestine solidarity events at Sarawak Stadium, Masjid Jamek, and along the Kuching Waterfront in the last two months,” he said.

As a self-taught photojournalist with over 30 years of experience, Nadim believed that people could understand a story better through what they see in a photograph after they read the news.

“So, in a way, what we do is reinforcing what people read in the news, and that is the beauty of photojournalism,” he told DayakDaily today.

Nadim, who has worked for several publications and media houses over the past decades, said his work is not only about creativity but also discipline.

“I will always do thorough planning and homework before every event or assignment. Even when I do my photography, I will do the same thing. I wish to tell this from my experience as a photojournalist to those who are new in the industry,” he said.

While lamenting the fast-evolving technology, he said creativity in photography is very much individualistic.

“Anybody can set up a camera, but it all depends on how creative you are with it to get that good shot.”

Meanwhile, Nadim wishes for photojournalists to get more recognition and support especially those who are talented yet have no opportunity to showcase their works.

He urged the government and private sectors to provide more support and guidance to his fellow photojournalists for the profession to become more competitive and lucrative.

He also expressed thanks to the Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA) for their support and the management of Tabung Baitulmal who facilitated the exhibition venue.

Nadim’s exhibition is on the ground floor of Majma Mall. His works are also for sale with a price range from RM180 to RM200 per piece. Members of the public may contact 012 892 9722 for any inquiries. — DayakDaily
