KUCHING, Jan 19: The aftermath of a three-vehicle accident in front of a bank on Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho last night (Jan 18) resulted in injuries to a male pedestrian in his 60s, as well as damage to the bank and a nearby house.
In a statement by the Kuching district police chief Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle driven by a local man in his 60s was the cause of the 8pm accident as the driver lost control of his vehicle and hit the victim who was in front of the bank premises, severely injuring his head and left leg.
“The accident shattered the window of the bank, and the driver also hit two other vehicles and a house while trying to reverse.
“The victim is still being treated at the emergency ward of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH),” he said.
The case will be investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which carries a fine of between RM4,000 and RM10,000 and liable to jail of up to 12 months, upon conviction.
