3 prison clusters reported in Sri Aman and Miri, 152 confirmed cases so far

KUCHING, July 9: Three prison clusters with 152 confirmed Covid-19 cases to-date have been declared in Sri Aman and Miri today.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the three new Covid-19 clusters were reported at the Batu Lintang Immigration Detention Centre, Sri Aman Central Prison and the Miri Central Prison.


The clusters were, thus, named as the Benteng Sri Aman Cluster, Tembok Sri Aman Dua Cluster and Tembok Miri Cluster respectively.

In the Benteng Sri Aman Cluster, 56 individuals were screened where 38 Indonesians tested positive, 16 individuals were negative and two more samples awaiting laboratory test results.

As for the Tembok Sri Aman Dua Cluster, 57 individuals underwent the Covid-19 screening and 55 individuals consisting of 10 Malaysians and 45 non-Malaysians, were positive for the virus.

Of the remaining, one result returned negative and another sample is still waiting to be tested.

Moving on to the Tembok Miri Cluster, a total of 631 individuals were swabbed where 59 were found infected with Covid-19 and another 572 samples have yet to be verified.

Meanwhile, SDMC assured that all Covid-19 patients were admitted into the Sri Aman and Miri Hospitals and Low-risk Treatment and Quarantine Centres (PKRCs) for isolation and treatment purposes.

Other than the prison clusters, Sarawak also reported a Jalan Pasar Basah Cluster in Mukah which involved a wet market at Jalan Lama Mukah and found 32 confirmed cases as of today.

As four new clusters emerged, two clusters namely the Jalan Selirik Cluster in Kapit and Jalan Brooke Cluster in Miri were declared to be expired after registering zero cases for the past 28 days.

SDMC, thus said in a statement today, Sarawak is now left with 99 active clusters. — DayakDaily
