JULAU, Nov 27: Three men have been arrested while several others managed to escape for their alleged involvement in an illegal cockfighting activity yesterday.
Julau district police chief DSP Andam Sulin said that a police team acting from a tip-off on a cockfighting activity, had raided the plantation at Nanga Sempang, Ulu Entabai at about 3.30pm.
“When the police team arrived at the scene, a group of men dashed off. However the team managed to arrest three of them aged between 50 to 75,” he said.
The police had also seized four roosters, with two already dead and two live ones.
DSP Andam said other items seized were a board for writing the bets, two cockfighting spurs and a weighing machine.
The case is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1963.
DSP Andam also advised the people not to get involved or organise such activities.
“Do not get involved or organise cock fighting activity as such activity will cause people to gather and will indirectly result in the spread of Covid-19,” he advised.
He warned that the police will not compromise with anybody caught indulging in the activity. — DayakDaily
