KUCHING, Nov 18: Three individuals in Miri are facing a total of 21 charges related to fraud in the purchase and construction of houses, resulting in a loss of RM883,670.
The accused, aged between 40 to 60, pleaded not guilty to the charges read before the Miri District Magistrate.
Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu stated that a total of 19 investigation papers, involving losses reported last year, led to these charges.
The accused were charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same act, at Miri Magistrate’s Court on Nov 6.
Each of the three accused has been granted cash bail of RM500 with a local surety for each charge, pending the trial date.
The court has scheduled the pre-trial case management (PTCM) for Dec 6, while the preliminary hearing for two investigation papers in this case is expected to take place from Nov 20 to 23 at the Miri Court.
The ongoing investigation, based on reports by the victim, may lead to additional charges in the future after the case is complete and instructions on charges are received from the prosecutor. — DayakDaily
