KUCHING, Nov 20: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang today handed over three completed house repair projects to recipients in Kampung Sungai Tapang.
Speaking during the ceremony, Lo said starting in 2016, the House Repair For The Poor Programme was initiated by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), which is an initiative under the urban poverty eradication programme, and implemented by MPP.
According to him, the house repair assistance for the poor is one of the goals under the 10th, 11th, and 12th Malaysian Plan (RMK12) of reducing the incidences of poverty and in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 2030 (SDG 2030).
“Since 2016, MPP has repaired 154 houses for the poor. Previously, the allocation for the house repair was RM15,000 per house, and in 2021, the allocation for house repair has been increase to RM17,000 per house,” he said.
Meanwhile, Lo, who is also Batu Kitang incumbent, noted apart from MPP’s efforts through KPKT, he has also helped complete the repair works for 166 houses in Batu Kitang constituency in the last five years through the allocation given by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“For this, I would like to congratulate government of the day for carrying out such a meaningful project that brings comfort and happiness to the people,” he added.
MPP has been allocated a total of RM680,000 by KPKT for the House Repair For The Poor Programme Phase 2 2021.
A total of 40 houses have been approved for the projects and the repair works are expected to be fully completed by the end of this month.
