KUCHING, Dec 5: A late-night fire destroyed three houses and damaged two others in Kampung Tabuan Hilir here, but fortunately, no one was injured.

According to a report by Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the incident occurred at around 10.50pm last night (Dec 4).

Firefighters from BBP Tabuan Jaya, with assistance from BBP Padungan and BBP Batu Lintang, responded promptly, arriving on the scene within minutes. The operation lasted until 1.25am.

“The fire involved three village houses. The first was a semi-permanent structure, the second non-permanent, and the third semi-permanent.

“The first house was completely destroyed, while the second and third were about 80 per cent damaged.

“Firefighters were able to save two nearby houses, which suffered only minor damage,” it said.

Following the fire, the Civil Defence Force (APM) reported that 31 residents affected by the blaze were placed in a temporary evacuation centre at Dewan Dato Sri Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

Authorities said all residents escaped without injury, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. – DayakDaily
