KOTA SAMARAHAN, July 16: The construction of the 3.3km route for the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway is expected to complete in November, a month after the upgrading works at the five roundabouts along the road.
According to a report by TVS, Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, said the ART route is presently three per cent ahead of schedule.
“We are confident it can be completed according to schedule because the prototype will arrive soon.
“We are very optimistic that this road will be completed according to schedule because the site monitoring results are already strong, and some of the road surfaces have already been built.
“If you look at the structure of the land, there is no reason for it not to be completed on schedule. It is very easy because it does not involve digging deep soil,” he said when met by reporters after visiting the roundabout near the Sarawak Heart Centre here yesterday (July 15).
Uggah, who is also Sarawak Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, further said that he was satisfied with the level of progress made by the contractor on the project.
Previously, Sarawak Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin informed that the ART system prototype is scheduled to arrive in Kuching next month (August 2023) for engineering run for two months at Isthmus, Kota Samarahan, in September and October, followed by proof of concept (POC) trial run in November. — DayakDaily
