KUCHING, Aug 21: A 29-year-old man died after he was believed to have fallen into a river while fishing at the Sungai Taman Limbang area here on Thursday (Aug 20).
Bau district police chief Superintendent Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the incident occurred at around 11.30pm when the victim was fishing with several other individuals in the area.
He said the victim was believed to have fallen face-first into the river before being found unconscious.
“His friends then pulled him out of the water before he was taken to Bau Hospital for treatment,” he said in a statement today.
The victim was pronounced dead by a medical officer at 12.23am today at the Emergency Unit of Bau Hospital.
“Preliminary police checks found no suspicious injuries or criminal elements on the victim’s body.
“Police have also taken further action by recording statements from the victim’s friends and witnesses and conducting an inspection at the scene,” he said.
He added that a post-mortem would be conducted to determine the actual cause of death.
The case has been classified as sudden death. — DayakDaily
