KUCHING, Oct 15: A total of 29,177 Primary Six pupils from 1,050 schools across Sarawak will sit for the Sarawak Dual Language Programme Year 6 Assessment (UP-DLPS 6) from Oct 15 to 16.
Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the UP-DLPS 6 is a Sarawak government initiative implemented in collaboration with the Sarawak Education Department (JPNS) and the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE).
He expressed appreciation to both agencies for their continuous support in ensuring the smooth implementation of the assessment.
“This standardised assessment covers Science and Mathematics, which are taught fully in English under the Dual Language Programme (DLP) Sarawak, as well as the English Language subject, which serves as the medium of instruction.
“All UP-DLPS 6 question papers have been vetted and verified by Cambridge University Press and Assessment (CUPA) to ensure the validity and reliability of the instruments in assessing pupils’ knowledge and skills according to international standards,” he said in a statement today.
Sagah emphasised that the UP-DLPS 6 marks a significant milestone in strengthening STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education and English proficiency among Sarawakian students.
“Through this assessment, the Ministry aims to objectively measure pupils’ performance in Science and Mathematics taught in English and identify areas for improvement.
“The results will guide the design of customised intervention programmes to further enhance teaching and learning quality in DLP schools,” he added.
He also conveyed his gratitude to all head teachers, teachers, parents, and pupils for their dedication and commitment to the success of the DLP Sarawak initiative.
Sagah said the initiative is part of the State government’s long-term strategy to prepare students for global competitiveness under the Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
He concluded by wishing all Primary Six pupils success in their UP-DLPS 6, expressing confidence that their achievements will reflect Sarawak’s growing excellence in STEM and English education. — DayakDaily
