SERIAN, April 16: Police arrested a total of 28 people from a few villages here last night for flouting the Movement Control Order (MCO).
The Ops Covid-19 operations by armed forces and People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) personnel comprised several road blocks, snap checks and police patrols, especially in the villages.
District police chief DSP Aswandy Anis disclosed that last night’s operation was the largest in terms of arrests since the MCO was implemented on March 18.
“The suspects were caught either loitering in the villages or hanging out along the road side. They failed to provide valid reasons for their actions for not staying at home,” Aswandy added.
He also revealed that since the MCO started, Serian police have arrested 42 people.
Those arrested will be charged under Section 11(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the local Infected Areas) Regulations 2020 which provides a maximum fine of RM1,000 or jail for up to six months, or both. — DayakDaily
