27 schools affected by flood waters, 4 closed

KUCHING, Jan 18: The incessant rain over the past few days have resulted in the closure of four schools out of the 27 schools that are affected by flood waters.

These four schools are SK Sungai Bong and SK Kuala Bok from Baram, and SK Nanga Bon of Sibu and SK Kuala Kenyana of Mukah.

In total, 287 students in these four schools are affected.


As for the other 23 schools, classes were still going on as usual even though some schools reported flood waters as high as three feet.

According to a statement from the State Disaster Management Committee, lessons had proceeded as usual because accessibility to classrooms were not affected. Only certain parts of these schools were inundated by flood waters, whereas classrooms were spared.

The statement also said schools have yet to be used as temporary shelter for flood victims.

Apart from schools, the State Disaster Management Committee also reported that 25 longhouses were affected by flood waters brought about by the recent heavy rain.

Of these longhouses affected by flood, 12 of them are in Ulu Suai area.

Meanwhile, as of this afternoon, the recent rain had reportedly ceased in most parts of Sarawak .

Only one or two places were reported to be still experiencing incessent rain.

For the evening, the Meteorologi Department had predicted that there will only be rain in one or two places in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
