KUCHING, Sept 5: The 27-door longhouse of Rumah Sambon in Nanga Kesit, Lubok Antu had ‘ruai’ fans installed thanks Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (Statos).

In a press release today, Statos said the contribution was funded by its three-month-long photo exhibition held at Statos Gallery in Singapore featuring Sarawak’s breathtaking scenery and dynamic culture, captured through the lenses of the three talented photographers as part of their initiative and to improve the living conditions within Rumah Sambon.

According to the statement, four special photography talk sessions were also held during the exhibition, where the partnering photographers shared about the beauty of Sarawak and their unique experiences in capturing its essence.

“The sessions were aimed towards promoting Sarawak tourism and engaging the audience with the enchanting stories behind each photograph. The highlight of the exhibition was that the public was able to view and purchase the exquisite photographs, at the same time contributing to Statos’ community support initiative.

“All the proceeds from the exhibition went towards a philanthropic goal—to enhance the comfort of the “ruai” (the shared hall in a longhouse) of Rumah Sambon in Nanga Kesit,” it said.

It said that although the longhouse has embraced modern amenities like treated water and electricity, there is an ongoing need for improvement, particularly with the installation of wall fans to provide relief from the humidity and heat.

It also said all 27 wall fans have been successfully purchased and installed at Rumah Sambon recently.

“For its success, Statos would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who purchased the photographs during the exhibition and supported this initiative.

“A special thanks also go to Ms. Aw and her husband for their generous contributions, which went a long way towards realising the noble cause,” the statement read. — DayakDaily
