KUCHING, July 12: A 26-year-old man who fired a shot into the air at a residential area in Bintulu last June 25 has been sentenced to an eight-month imprisonment or a fine of RM5,000.
The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Galvin Loo Wei Ming at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday (July 11) after the accused pleaded guilty to the charges he faced under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960.
Bintulu District Police Chief Superintendent Nixon Joshua Ali said the prosecution of the case was handled by ASP Harold M Soiwil while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
According to a news report by TVS, Nixon said the police received a call from a member of the public that the accused had fired shots into the air from inside a vehicle at a residential area in Bintulu before he ran away.
It was fortunate that the incident had not caused any injury or damage to any person or property.
As a result of the interrogation, the police managed to confiscate a shotgun, one bullet casing, the accused’s clothes, and the vehicle used. — DayakDaily
