BAU, June 3: The 26-year-old man who was killed in a tragic accident at KM11 of Jalan Bau–Lundu last night (June 2) had lost control of his Kia Naza Forte, crashed into a roadside metal barrier, spun several times, and came to a halt across the road—before being struck by a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
Bau District Police chief, Deputy Superintendent Dr Daram Ruer, said the incident occurred around 9pm as the victim was driving from Lundu towards Bau.
“After the vehicle came to rest across the road, it was hit by a Toyota Hilux travelling in the opposite direction,” he said in a statement today.
The impact killed the Kia Naza Forte driver on the spot.
Two other drivers involved, operating a Toyota Hilux and a Nissan Navara, escaped uninjured.
Preliminary investigation suggested that the victim’s vehicle lost control before hitting the end of a metal road barrier (P-Turn from the Bau direction), causing it to spin and veer into the oncoming lane.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Police are appealing to witnesses or members of the public with information to come forward and assist in the investigation by contacting the nearest police station.
Daram also advised motorists to be especially cautious during the festive season.
“Ensure your vehicle is in good condition and always drive responsibly to safeguard everyone’s safety,” he added. — DayakDaily
