KUCHING, Feb 8: A total of 250 families in Lundu received Chinese New Year food baskets under the Yayasan PETRONAS Memacu Kehidupan (Uplifting Lives) initiative, bringing festive cheer to underprivileged members of the Chinese community ahead of the upcoming celebration.

Tanjung Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan said the programme reflected PETRONAS’ commitment to social inclusivity and aligned with Sarawak’s Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which emphasises ensuring that no group is left behind as the State progresses.

“I welcome this initiative as it helps families who are less fortunate, including those who are elderly, unwell or living with disabilities, to celebrate Chinese New Year with their loved ones,” he said when speaking at the Memacu Kehidupan Tahun Baru Cina 2026 programme held in Lundu today.

He also expressed hope that PETRONAS would continue to include Lundu in future festive programmes, including during Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya celebrations.

Meanwhile, PETRONAS Sarawak senior general manager Anuar Ismail said the Memacu Kehidupan initiative, which is aligned with the Sejahtera MADANI agenda, is implemented during major festive seasons to strengthen the economic and social well-being of communities nationwide.

“For Chinese New Year this year, Yayasan PETRONAS aims to bring joy to 2,100 families through the distribution of food baskets containing basic necessities and festive biscuits,” he said in his speech.

In Sarawak, he said PETRONAS, in collaboration with District Offices and the Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKM), had identified 500 recipient families across Lundu, Bintulu and Sibuti.

Anuar added that the success of the programme was the result of close cooperation between PETRONAS, the Lundu District Office, the Lundu Chinese Community Association and the local community. — DayakDaily
