24 longhouse residents in Selangau test positive for Covid-19, triggering new Nanga Pelugau Cluster

KUCHING, Aug 24: Four foreigners and twenty locals from a longhouse at Nanga Pelugau in Selangau tested positive for Covid-19, sparking a new cluster known as the Nanga Pelugau Cluster.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily Covid-19 update, a total of 59 people from the longhouse in Nanga Pelugau have been swabbed.


From this total, 24 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case whilst the balance of 35 people tested negative.

SDMC said the Covid-19 patients from the cluster have been admitted to health facilities in Sibu for treatment.

The Nanga Pelugau Cluster is one of two new clusters announced in Sarawak today, the second being the Plaman Bantang Cluster in Serian.

On the other hand, the Lempaong Cluster in Betong was declared ended after zero Covid-19 cases were reported in the past 28 days.

With two new clusters formed and one ended, there are 118 active clusters in the State, from which 21 recorded 356 new cases today. — DayakDaily
