24 districts in Sarawak Covid-19 free today as Kuching reports 130 out of 261 cases

KUCHING, July 18: A total of 24 districts in Sarawak have been Covid-19 free as Kuching continues to top the daily toll with 130 cases today.

According to the reports by State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Sarawak registered 261 new cases while Kuching took up almost half of it.

Districts that recorded zero Covid-19 cases for the past 24 hours were Lundu, Mukah, Lubok Antu, Telang Usan, Betong, Simunjan, Song, Belaga, Lawas, Selangau, Matu, Marudi, Sri Aman, Bukit Mabong, Dalat, Julau, Pusa, Tebedu, Kanowit, Sebauh, Limbang, Kabong, Tanjung Manis and Daro.

Other than Kuching, districts that saw double-digit case numbers were Sibu (31), Sarikei (21), Samarahan (18) and Meradong (12).

The remaining 11 districts with new infections today were Bintulu (9), Beluru (8), Saratok (6), Asajaya (6), Miri (5), Kapit (5), Pakan (4), Bau (2), Subis (2), Serian (1) and Tatau (1).

With that, SDMC said the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak as of today stands at 71,300.

“Out of the 261 patients today, 169 were detected following close contact screenings where two of them were symptomatic.

“Another 21 cases were of individual screenings from active clusters where none showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

“Adding on, there were 23 cases that were of symptomatic screenings from health facilities and 48 cases were from other screenings in health facilities,” it said in the statement on Covid-19 update today.

One new fatality was reported today, involving a 58-year-old man from Kapit who suffered from high blood pressure and dyslipidemia, thus raising the Covid-19 death toll to 444.

Meanwhile, 495 patients were discharged from hospitals across Sarawak, so there remain 4,826 active cases in isolation or treatment.

On Covid-19 zones, Sarawak now has 20 red, six orange, 11 yellow and three green zones. Limbang, Lawas and Daro are the only safe zones as of today. — DayakDaily
